About The Event
Activities After we set up camp on Saturday, we will be visiting the Beaghmore Stone Circles, Davagh Forest and Om Dark Skies and Observatory. On Sunday we will head to Loughmacrory for a picnic and optional swim. There are numerous more challenging hikes in the area for those that would like to climb a mountain on Sunday. On Monday I have booked a private sauna and swim for the group at Splash near Maghera, on the way home. There will be an additional cost for this, and I will be posting it separately as a Day Event. There is a cafe on site if you would prefer to just watch the mad ones going in.
Accommodation Shepherd’s Rest is a small campsite near Draperstown with toilets, showers and a pub on-site. We will be camping on an enclosed lawn beside a very cute garden cottage with an open fire. Campervans and caravans can also be accommodated in the parking area beside the camping lawn. Well behaved dogs on leads can also come.
Cost is £140 or £120 (low income) per person for the 2 nights camping, most of your food and activities, including the Om Observatory tour. Contact me directly if you would like to pay in instalments. There is an additional cost if you want a swim and sauna at Splash (see separate Day Event post), no cost to spectate. Transport is not included, although car sharing is encouraged.
Cancellations: Refunds will only be given if I can resell your ticket/s.
Food: We will be eating late on Saturday night as I booked the last tour at Om Observatory, in the hope we get to see the stars if it’s a clear night. It will be a communal vegetarian/vegan meal that we will make before we go out on Saturday. Bring a snack with you to keep you going until we get back. On Sunday we’ll have a self-service breakfast of cereal, fruit, toast and boiled eggs. We’ll make a picnic to take with us to Lough Macrory or up the mountain, for those hiking. Sunday night I’m hoping to buy a portable pizza oven so we can make ourselves pizzas for dinner. We’ll finish off the weekend with a cooked breakfast on Monday before we pack up. Tea/coffee etc and kitchen/cooking equipment is all provided. Gluten free and non-dairy milk/food will need to be brought with you.
Ethos: We are a very friendly and supportive group and most women attend their first camp on their own, so please come along and join us. All activities are optional and you are welcome to lie in until lunchtime, go for a walk or just sit and enjoy the sunshine. Everyone attending a Wild Women Camp is expected to chip in with cooking, cleaning and dishes – if you don’t like cooking please offer to help with the dishes. We do enjoy a few drinks around the campfire in the evenings, but please keep this in moderation and be respectful of others sleeping nearby.
Kitlist: I have spare camping equipment if you need to borrow anything and there will be people to help you pitch your tent, if you have never done it before.
