About The Event
Have you ever heard of the Islandmagee Witches?
In September 1711, Ann Haltridge of Islandmagee was sitting by her fire when she was struck on the back of the shoulder by a stone... what followed was a series of strange and dangerous events, ultimately ending in the trial of eight local women and one man for witchcraft at Carrickfergus Gaol.
Local storyteller Vicky McFarland will share this tragic tale of the Islandmagee witch trial at the Witches Rock overlooking Browns Bay on Islandmagee. Come and hear this sad and perplexing story in the place it happened over 300 years ago.
Following the story, we will walk or drive to nearby Portmuck Harbour for a swim (optional) and a sumptuous BBQ on the beach.
